Vaisala will be honoured with two awards at the 83rd American Meteorological Society's annual meeting. The meeting takes place Feb 14, 2003 in Long Beach,California.
George Frederick, Vaisala Windprofiler SBU manager will be given the 2003 Charles Franklin Brooks Award for “outstanding service as president and leadership in promoting economic growth across all sectors of the Society”.
George Frederick began his career in meteorology at a weather office in the U.S. Air Force and retired as the Commander of the Air Weather Service. During his Air Force career, he planned for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for weather reconnaissance, developed the roadmap for modernization of the Air Weather Service, and directed planning for weather support for B-2 bombers. George joined Vaisala in 2001.
Vaisala has won the 2003 American Meteorological Society’s award for outstanding service to meteorology by a corporation. The award recognizes Vaisala for "innovative development of sensors and systems that have contributed to significant advances in observing the atmosphere.”
